Edward Weston
Edward Weston was one of the most initiative and influential artists of the 20th century. Weston photographed a variety of different objects ranging from landscapes to portraits. The images above are some of his most famous pieces of work and as you can see they are rather impressive. The contrasting tones of black and white makes the edges of the object stand out a lot. I feel as if these photos create a rather glum and old fashioned mood. The angles he has used almost take away what the object actually is which is a very good skill because it shows that he focuses on the detail of the object rather then the object as a whole.

- The best bit about this piece is the detail and the range of angles used.
- It links to the photographer Edward Weston because they are show natural form and use of light.
- There is good demonstration of focus because the photos are very sharp.
- To improve this work i could of made the photos a bit brighter.
- Some of the images are over exposed and come across too dark.
- My next step is to make my pictures more visible and brighter.
- I will focus on refining my images by using the natural and unnatural light to my advantage.
Here you can see my adaptation of Edward Weston's work. As you can see I have similarly used the way that Weston has used detail from certain bits of his object. I have used the curled bits of bone from inside of an animals skull. This shows that I'm mainly focused on that part of the object.
I feel as if the photo is quite successful in terms of recreating Weston's work, however it is my own adaptation of it. I added a few colour corrections to make the photo black and white as I feel it would suit my artist and be similar to his style so that it is clear where my ideas have came from.

- The best bit about this piece is the different colours I have used.
- It links to the photographer Frank Gilbreth because I have used similar skills and techniques that he uses.
- There is good demonstration of control and use of light.
- To improve this work i could try to write something or draw a reconizable image.
- Some of these photos are slightly blury and could be in focus more.
- My next step is to try and manually focus the camera before i take the photo of my light trail.
- I will focus on refining my images by making sure i focus the camera properly beforehand.

How to create a chemigram. Firstly, you need the items listed below:
When i was making my chemigram, I used a bit of masking tape to section off areas. I then applied the fixer solution (a weak acid) by doing a painting and flicking action. I let it soak into the paper and then applied the developer which makes the blackish colour on the picture. It does this by reacting to the light. Next, I washed off all the chemicals with water and then put it in the fixer again. |

- There is good demonstration of understanding the ways to make different styles of picture.
- To improve this work I could try and use different technigues of apliying the soulution.
- Some of the images are a bit random. Next time i could try and make something out of it.
- My next step is to create an image using this technique.
- I will focus on refining my images by trying to find new ways of doing it.
ApertureAperture is a space which light passes through a photographic instrument like a camera. Aperture adds a dimension to the photograph by blurring the background or making it in focus. Basically, aperture is a hole within a lens, through which light travels into the camera body. The iris of the lens that controls the size (diameter) of the aperture is called “diaphragm” in optics. The sole purpose of the diaphragm is to block or stop all light, with the exception of the light that goes through the aperture. What is depth of field? Depth of field is the area of the image that appears sharp. A large f-number such as f/32, (which means a smaller aperture) will bring all foreground and background objects in focus. Whereas if you use a smaller f-number (which means a bigger aperture) will isolate the foreground from the background by making the foreground objects sharp and the background blurry

Focus
In these photographs I have been working on using different focusing techniques. As you can see, some photos are focused on the objects in front and some on the objects or background.
Formal Elements
We were given solid images in lesson and told to go around the school and find parts of it that looked similar to the pictures. For example (top middle) was two different coloured rectangles next to each other.
Jennifer Blakeley
We were looking at Jennifer Blakey who focuses on finding natural or unnatural objects and turning them into words. We were given the word Bristol and this is what I came up with...
