Benjamin Von Wong and his world hunger project
Benjamin Von Wong is a 30 year old Canadian photographer who is most famous for his project on world hunger. Instead of creating photos that act as sob stories to the public, he made more exciting looking photos were he would take ordinary children, dress them up and take pictures to look like they're steeling food. This got hugely recognized because world hunger is a big problem to tackle and the photos Von Wong created drew a lot of attention to the problem.
Mood
I feel the pictures have quite a positive mood but have a negative message. The pictures seem quite energetic and joyful but have a very terrifying message; that being that children go without food. I believe the artist has designed them this way to grab your attention but when you discover what the pictures are about you immediately come to the realization on what its about.
Process
Van Wong went through multiple process to create his pictures. Some of the things he did was:
- Angles (Would go onto ladders etc)
- Props (costumes etc)
- Location (Would go to schools and kitchens etc)
- Lighting (Strobe lighting, constant lighting)
- Varied zoom lengths
- Volunteers
Content
Personally I think that the message has been lost in all the bright colours used in the pictures. Its almost as if it takes away the seriousness of the topic.
